Conduction Band Control of Oxyhalides with a Triple-Fluorite Layer for Visible Light Photocatalysis

A triple-layered Bi2MO4 block (M = Bi, La, Y) in Bi2MO4Cl is truncated by Bi–O bond breaking, resulting in a series of n-zigzag chain structures depending on M. The lowered symmetry due to the chain formation allows extensive control of the conduction band and thus variable photoconductivity and photocatalytic activity.
