Dicopper(II) Complexes of p-Cresol-2,6-Bis(dpa) Amide-Tether Ligands: Large Enhancement of Oxidative DNA Cleavage, Cytotoxicity, and Mechanistic Insight by Intracellular Visualization

The dicopper(II) complex of the p-cresol-2,6-bis(dpa) amide-tether ligand is 72-fold more active in DNA cleavage with H2O2 and 24-fold more cytotoxic to HeLa cells than related complexes. A Bodipy-modified complex visualizes intracellular behavior. The dicopper complex cleaves DNA and/or RNA of nucleoli and mitochondria to induce selective cell death of cancer cells. See Y. Kadoya, M.
